Archaeoptics provide unparalleled close-range 3D laser scanning services.
We provide a fast, accurate and cost-effective close-range scanning service using high-accuracy 3D laser scanners. We offer both an in-house bureau scanning service for small or portable objects and a fully portable on-site scanning service.
Bureau Object Scanning
We offer a bureau scanning service. This enables you to send us small artefacts and objects for scanning. As the scanning and processing are done in-house, we offer highly competitive rates for scanning and processing.
Small objects can be scanned and processed in a matter of hours enabling us to provide a next-day delivery. Larger objects can either be delivered to us or we can come to the object and scan in situ.
The benefits of our bureau service are:
- drive down your costs by only paying for the time taken to scan and process the object;
- our processing pipeline guarantees both accuracy and correctness. This ensures our models are ready for downstream processing, for example, rapid prototyping, CNC machining or visualisation saving you money in additional processing;
- our rapid turnaround service gets you your data when you need it;
Portable On-site Scanning
Archaeoptics have pioneered and mastered portable 3D laser scanning since our inception in 2000. Our scanning rig is designed for maximum portability allowing us to undertake work anywhere and in virtually any environmental conditions.
Our ground-breaking large object scanning service is closely tied to our unique data-processing capabilities and enables us to scan large objects and structures at sub-millimetre accuracy in situ.
The benefits of our on-site scanning service are:
- undertake highly accurate empirical 3D condition surveys in a cost-effective manner;
- no need to bring the object to us. Ideal for saving on high insurance costs and nail-biting stress levels, especially concerning priceless objects and artefacts;
- immoveable objects can now be accurately scanned without compromising the object;
- examine fine sculptural detail with unprecedented ease;
- visualise large objects in ways that cannot be achieved in the real world;
High-Resolution and Accuracy
Our close-range scanner is capable of a resolution of 170 microns and can achieve accuracies of 50 microns, narrower than a human hair. The benefits to you are
- unprecedented levels of detail can be recorded on the surface of the object;
- very fine surface features can be resolved, ideal for archaeological artefacts and museum artefacts;
- guaranteed critical dimension measurement for engineering applications;
Deliver and Integrate
Our close-range scanning service can produce deliverables in a wide variety of output formats. We produce watertight triangle mesh data suitable for rapid prototyping, CNC machining and visualisation as a standard deliverable. We can also supply point cloud data and parametric (IGES) surfaces.
Applications
Close-range scanning may be commissioned for a variety of applications including:
- archaeological recording
- condition monitoring
- museum kiosks
- reverse engineering
- rapid product design
- replica production
- tourist information and visualisation
