Select the input format of the coordinate you wish to convert using the options listed below. Then, input the coordinate to convert and click the “Convert” button. For more information on the input formats, see below.
Conversion Formats
- NGR8
The input format of NGR8 data should be XX DDDD DDDD where XX is the 100×100km map square within which the coordinate lies. The actual coordinate within that square can be expressed as a four, six or eight digit number. For example, NS 5534 6590, NS 553 659 or NS 55 65.
- Easting/Northing
Easting/northing values are input as a pair of comma-separated numbers. For example, 256000, 665000.
- Lat/Long (dec)
Latitude/longitude values should be input in a decimal format, as a comma-separated pair of two floating-point numbers. For example, 55.85668, -4.3008.
- 500, 1km, 10km OS Map Square
These input formats are a single string of characters and numbers which denote a specific Ordnance Survey map square. The organisation of these squares is a bit too complex to go into here. Typical input values are in the form of NS56NE20 (500m), NS56NE20 (1km) and NS56 (10km). These squares correspond to the filenames used on the Streetmap site, for example.
